David Smallhouse began his career as a glassblower at a well known studio in Northern California in 1980. He was instantly addicted to the magic of the media and has worked his way from pontil boy to master glassblower. There are few days that have gone by since he began that he hasn't been working the craft. He spent over twenty years designing and producing for the studio until his desire to fully express his own ideas with color and form resulted in the opening of Smallhouse Art Glass in 2001. THe Smallhouse studio merges David's love of glass with his dedication to his family. His wife, Hannah and their four children are actively involved in the studio. His designs represent a vibrant composite of his expression, enthusiasm and experience.

Some of David's signature works include the Bag Vase, Frog and Octopus paperweights amongst several others. He is continuously designing and his ideas flow like the molten glass itself.

In 1994 he was personally asked to create the inaugural staff for the president of Chico State University. He is shown in the Museum of Glass in Corning, NY as well as the Smithsonian and many fine galleries across the United States and Canada.
